ARTHUR GUINNESS FUND APPLICATION

Who can apply

We're looking to support social entrepreneurs who are leading or starting innovative projects to change Ireland for the better.

These social entrepreneurs can be:

Individuals with a new idea for social change
Leaders of groups of like-minded people
Leaders of charities and not-for-profit organisations
Leaders of social enterprises (profit making organisations where the primary focus is on social impact rather than generating revenue)

Projects should fall into one of the following stages of development.

a) Start-up/Early Stage of development (0-2 years)

Have you started your project within the last 2 years and are you still in the early stages of developing or piloting your idea? Do you need funding in order to prove that your idea works and make it happen? If so you can apply as a Start-Up project to receive up to €25,000 in funding per annum for 2 years, in addition to practical and technical support.

This award is targeted specifically at social entrepreneurs who have a new and innovative idea that has yet to be proven, but has the potential to create widespread social change in Ireland. Social entrepreneurs who are at a very early stage of developing their project can often find it hard to attract funding. If you can make your project stand out from the crowd and excite us about the impact that your idea could have, then we'd love to give you the chance to turn your innovative idea into a reality.

Social entrepreneurs who apply under this category should be ready for a challenge, as funding in the second year will be based on the award winner raising additional funds from other sources (an essential skill for early stage social entrepreneurs). In addition, winners will be challenged to meet certain predetermined milestones over the course of the award (these milestones will be agreed between the social entrepreneur and the Arthur Guinness Fund team at the beginning of the award period).

b) Take-Off Projects (2 - 5 years)

Do you have a project that is at a more advanced stage (ideally 2 - 5 years in operation) and are you ready for your idea to 'Take-Off'? If so, you can apply to receive up to €50,000 in funding per annum for 2 years.

Social entrepreneurs who have been working on their project for a few years (typically 2 - 5 years) and have it up and running can often find it hard to bring their idea to the next level. They can show that the project is having a positive impact but want to increase the benefit further. With funding, technical support and advice, we aim to provide a springboard for these projects and help them to increase their reach from the current level.

As we want our support to have as big an impact as possible, social entrepreneurs who apply under this category should think carefully about the difference that the Arthur Guinness Fund in particular will make to the growth and success of their project. Funding will be based on the social entrepreneur's performance in meeting certain predetermined milestones over the course of the award (these milestones will be agreed between the social entrepreneur and the Arthur Guinness Fund team at the beginning of the award period).

Please note that applications from the following will not be considered:

Government personnel, political or religious groups, public sector organisations or trade unions
Projects that are based overseas or whose primary benefit is overseas
Multiple entries for the same project
Projects where a significant focus is on activity involving people under 18 years of age
Diageo employees
