Over 23,000 tonnes of solid waste is produced in Malaysia each day.
The impact of this is on the environment is significant, particularly as only 5% of such waste is recycled around the country.
To combat the environmental impact of Malaysia’s waste production, Biji-Biji Initiative takes solid waste materials – such as wood and semi-finished furniture – and
reconstructs or 'up cycles' them into beautiful, usable products such as coffee tables, stools and shelves. These original products are then sold for profit.
Goals and objectives
Biji-Biji Initiative is also working to construct a state-of-the-art education centre and organic restaurant that will set a precedent for sustainable living, and put Malaysia on the map as a leader in sustainable solutions. It will host various courses, events and workshops to educate and empower young Malaysians and the local community,
enabling them to bring sustainable technologies into their living rooms and offices.
