The challenge

Rescue workers all around the world are some of the most dedicated and courageous of volunteers. However, a crucial lack of information hinders them from making the best decisions they possibly can in an emergency situation.

Business approach

Robin Blandford identified a way to combine his background in digital media and experience with the Irish Coast Guard to make a real difference. He founded Decisions for Heroes, which offers analysis tools that enable rescue workers to optimise their response to incidents and implement focused accident and suicide prevention campaigns.

Goals and objectives

Based on information recorded at Howth Head, the local coast guard was able to apply preventative measures to significantly reduce the number of suicides. With funding and support from The Arthur Guinness Fund, Robin plans to diversify the system nationally and internationally and provide the same benefits to other emergency response teams, such as the Fire Brigade.
