Due to the recent economic slowdown, many highly skilled and educated people are unable to find work in their industry of expertise. There are also many barriers to individuals who want to start their own business or work for themselves. Starting your own business has massive risks, involving considerable up-front expenses and undertakings that for many are unrealistic in the current climate.
George set up the Fumbally Exchange (FEx) to provide design-focused small businesses, sole traders and start-ups with affordable, fully-serviced desks and shared office space. It offers its members the opportunity to network, brainstorm, collaborate, share knowledge and learn business strategy in a mutually supportive environment. The FEx runs exhibitions, events, workshops and seminars focused on issues facing small business and showcases products and services that are relevant to its participants.
Goals and objectives
Aside from the benefit that the FEx brings to the individuals involved within it, the hub is also a natural generator of local activity. The introduction of such a community in other locations would be quickly self-sustaining and highly positive for local stimulation and growth.
