Many young adults in Jamaica drop out of school, or cannot afford to continue their education,
meaning they are left without skills from which they can make a good living.
Wynetta Wallace set up Laval’s School of Cosmetology – a certified City & Guilds institution – which takes young people from inner city communities in and around Spanish Town, Jamaica and gives them a free education in barbering, cosmetology and nail technology. School fees, uniforms and books as well as hair and nail products are all provided for free, and their training lasts for six months,
during which time students are tested on what they have learned, as well as the practical elements of their education.
Goals and objectives
This ground-breaking educational initiative is going from strength to strength and aims to take on more students as it grows.
